Karen House

So...

I've been spending a lot of my free time lately at a place in St. Louis called Karen House. I have known about the place for a long time, but never really traveled over to the establishment because of my rather grueling academic schedule in the 2007 school year. However, now that summer has started and I have a lot of free time to put myself to good use.

For those of you who have stumbled upon my humble blog and are not aware of what Karen House is, I suggest you google it. If you don't really care, I'll just let you know that it's a Catholic worker house in St. Louis that aims its ministry toward homeless women and children. It is not a safe house, although they certainly help people who are in abusive situations. Instead, Karen House is a place where they allow women in transition to stay. They have a variety of backgrounds, have different hardships, but all come to get their life straight with the help of the volunteers.

The volunteers are the reason why I have been there so much lately. There are the usuals I know from the university: john, megan, elizabeth, laura, etc. They introduced me to Forest, a very nice parent of two young and fun girls who is also a worker there. These people are amazing--fun, energetic, extremely loving. They have made my summer quite wonderful.

Last Saturday I went and installed screens. Today I helped move in some extra couches and sofa chairs that the university is getting rid of. I just can't seem to stay away from the wonderful people. If you're in the area, go check it out and meet some wonderful human beings that really care about the wellbeing of everyone.

Lots of love everybody. Stay cool and comfortable in the summer.
